LECTINO FOR BRAVE AND CHROME — VERSION 1.0.0

Install locally (no browser-store payment required)
1. Unzip the complete download into a folder you will keep.
2. In Brave open brave://extensions. In Chrome open chrome://extensions.
3. Turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the unzipped folder containing manifest.json.
4. Pin Lectino from the browser's Extensions menu if desired.
5. Open Lectino's extension panel and choose Connect Lectino account.
6. Sign in on lectino.com and approve the connection. Return to your article and reopen the extension panel.
7. Choose Open learning mode. Click a word to translate it and save it automatically.

Read in the whole browser tab
Learning mode fills the webpage area. Browser tabs and the address bar stay visible. The close button returns to the original page and scroll position. Change article and translation languages in the reading toolbar. Lectino's regular app keeps its compact layout.

Your account and privacy
The extension is activated only when you click it; it does not automatically read every visited site. It requests activeTab, scripting and storage permissions plus access to https://lectino.com for account pairing and translations. Tokens stay in trusted extension storage and are not exposed to website scripts. Only the selected word, a short context excerpt, article title and URL are sent to Lectino. The full article is not uploaded or added to a public library. Successfully translated words are saved privately to a synchronization inbox. Open Lectino regularly to move them into My words; pending inbox entries expire after 30 days. The browser connection also expires after 30 days and can then be renewed. Disconnect this browser in the extension panel to revoke access.

Publisher access
Learning mode uses rendered text already available on the current page. Hidden text, JSON-LD bodies, clipped/blurred content, scripts and comments are not used. No paywall or login bypass is provided. Complete consent/sign-in steps on the publisher's website first. Some websites or unusual layouts may not be supported; Lectino reports that instead of pretending an article was imported. Articles exceeding 80,000 characters or 180 paragraphs are rejected with an explanation instead of silently shortened. Use the publisher's normal navigation to choose another article, then activate Lectino again.

Requirements and limits
Current desktop Brave or Chrome, internet access and a verified Lectino account. This package is not an iPhone Safari extension; Safari packaging and testing are a separate release. Browser settings, browser-store pages, local files and non-HTTPS pages cannot be read. Translation uses the shared free service quota; temporary failures or a reached daily limit are shown and can be retried. A failed translation is never reported as saved.

Updates
After downloading an updated package, replace the files in the extension folder and click Reload on brave://extensions or chrome://extensions. Reload any open article tab before using the updated extension.

Development
Sources live in extension/src. Run node scripts/package-extension.mjs from the repository root to produce background.js, content.js and the deterministic downloadable ZIP. Run node --test tests/extension-ui*.test.mjs for protocol, sender isolation and packaging checks.
